7. Criminal
Criminal is one of the calmer true crime podcasts and offers something a little different to many of the others on this list. It’s a great introduction to the genre, especially for those who don’t like things to gory or shocking. Episodes focus on a variety of different crimes and the circumstances surrounding them.
Hosted by the soothing voice of Phoebe Judge, episodes not only cover murder and missing persons, but animals on trial in episode one (yes, really), computer hacking, and domestic abuse. Often guests who are involved directly in the story come on to give their take.
Criminal has been going for 6 years and has over 100 episodes in its back catalogue – most of which are quite short. They have recently launched a sister podcast too called This is Love, where animals are the central focus. Criminal has no connection to the Netflix TV show of the same name.
