10 Biggest Reasons Everybody Is Abandoning Facebook

5. It Diminishes The Value Of Real-Life Connections

Part of the reason why Facebook can get so annoying is those hypocrites who talk about how technology is damaging real-life relationships yet update everyone to the last second of their lives (more on them later). But the truth is, social media, including and especially Facebook, does play a role in diluting the strength of our real-life connections by creating so many artificial ones. We've all been in that situation before, be it on a date or during a family gathering, when no-one is saying a thing because everyone's nose is buried in a respective smartphone. Not only is it annoying, it gets to the point where it's just plain sad. We think in status updates and communicate in "likes." We're connecting, customizing, chatting and controlling, but nobody is having a conversation. Because we live so much of our lives online, unfolding for everyone to see, it diminishes the value of a real-life moment: "yeah, I already saw that on your Facebook timeline, no need to tell me about it!" can kill a conversation like nothing else.
