10 Biggest Scandals In American Politics
8. Operation Fast & Furious
The only trait governments worldwide appear to share is an abundance of privileged information hindered by a lack of common sense. For example: Operation Fast and Furious.
In 2009, the ATF (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms) began allowing the sale of firearms to known criminals along the U.S./Mexican border, allegedly trying to link the purchases back to the cartels. The only problem was no attempt to trace the guns was ever made and instead drug traffickers began to predictably use their new weapons to kill American border patrol agents in shootouts.
The scandal, dubbed Operation Fast & Furious, caused the NRA (National Rifle Association) as well as many 2nd Amendment activists to seethe with rage at the Obama administration for what appeared to be an attempt to garner sympathy towards inducing more firearm legislation.
Accusations from "gun nuts" aside, most Americans considered the act of selling guns to known criminals to be highly questionable.
