Attempting to auction off vacant positions in government to the highest bidder may sound like the crazy scheme of cut-rate dictator, yet in 2008, that is exactly what Rod Blagojevich tried to do.

Blagojevich, known for his distinctive mop of dark brown hair, was the governor of Illinois when Barack Obama was elected President by a landslide, leaving his seat empty in the senate.

Seeing an opportunity to make a lot of money without any real effort, Blagojevich used his influence as governor to stage a private auction where the winner would become Illnois' newest senator. As you can guess he got caught and was sentenced to 14 years in federal prison.

Earlier this year, Blagojevich–his entire head now shock white–had his appeal for early parole denied despite his immediate family pleading with the judge in tears.
