People who suffer from night terrors or those who have new-born babies and are sleep deprived may want to skip this entry. In Polish folklore exists a shadow monster that goes by the name of Night Hag or Nocnica.

Those who believe that she exists fear that she will come to them at night and sit on their bed while slowly sucking the very life essence from their body. It is said that people who sleep on their backs are especially targeted by Nocnica as the creature prefers to sit astride their chests while drinking their blood.

Small babies are Nocnica’s very favorite victims. She loves taunting and bullying little infants to hear them cry incessantly.

Many who suffer from sleep paralysis believe that the Night Hag visits them in their paralyzed state, either sitting on their chest or floating in the air above them, tormenting them while they are unable to move.
