Anthony Garcia murdered a rival gang member in 2004, and got away with it for over seven years. He was ultimately caught out thanks to doing the most idiotic thing imaginable: he tattooed the crime scene in great detail on his own body, surrounded by the phrase "RIVERA KILLS" (Rivera-13 was the name of his gang at the time). In 2011, Garcia was arrested for a minor traffic offense, and had his bare chest photographed due to the unusual markings. By sheer chance, a homicide detective, Kevin Lloyd, was flicking through photos of tattooed gang members and came across the picture of Garcia. It turns out Lloyd had worked on the exact murder case seven years ago in which Garcia had committed the murder. The detective recognised several details, such as the liquor store the murder had taken place in front of, a street light on the other side of the road and even the Christmas lights decorating the store. A sting operation was set up to make Garcia confess to the killing, and he was ultimately convicted of first-degree murder. This really was a confession he should have got off his chest.
