10 Most Brutal Prisons In The World

3. Diyarbakir Prison

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nsXU563GIkg Location: Turkey One of the world's most sadistic prisons, Diyarbakir has been in the press many times since it opened its gates in 1980 for its brutal treatment of its inmates. During one period known as the 'hell of Diyarbakir' the following widespread acts of systematic torture were exposed; relentless beatings, bathing in prison sewers, burning with cigarettes, sleep and sensory deprivation, falaka (beating of the soles of the feet) extraction of nails and teeth, rape and violent rectal examinations. Diyarbakir is said to have the greatest number of human rights violations per prisoner in the world and Amnesty International has received thousands upon thousands of allegations of torture including hundreds of prisoner deaths as a result of the treatment from the guards. To escape their situation, inmates have starved to death in their dozens via hunger strikes and died by self-immolation but to no avail. The state government has ignored widespread calls for the prison to be closed.
