Ted Bundy is perhaps the most infamous serial killer of all time aside from Jack the Ripper — and for good reason. No one knows for sure just how many people he killed throughout his life. He confessed to 28 but many believe his actual count could stretch into the hundreds.

Thankfully, he was doomed to the electric chair, but not before escaping custody twice.

Bundy was first arrested in 1975 when police found suspicious items in his car during. They took him into custody and linked DNA on the items to a missing girl. One of Bundy's would-be victims escaped his clutches prior and testified against him, handing him a 15-year jail sentence.

On trial for another murder, Bundy chose to represent himself which allowed him to be left alone in a room to prepare for court. Naturally, he took this opportunity to jump out of a second-story window and ran. He was rearrested a few days later.

Ever crafty, Bundy snuck out of his jail cell through an opening in the ceiling. Bundy continued his murder spree for another two months. What finally did him in? Another traffic stop and this time when he was driving a stolen car.

The arresting officer had no idea he cuffed one of the most prolific serial killers of all time until they got to the station.
