You may be forgiven for wondering what happened to hip-hop royalty Missy Elliott in the ten - going on eleven - years since her last studio album The Cookbook. Though he hadn't retired, she took a step back from the limelight to write and produce songs for others, and pop up with an occasional guest appearance on albums here and there until she returned with the hit single "WTF (Where They From)" in 2015. Perhaps there's another reason that Missy seemed to spent ten years in seclusion, though. The famously superstitious Elliott absolutely refuses to cross the path of a black cat. Maybe one spent a decade outside her front door? The musician has previously claimed that she will return if faced with her feline nemesis:
"If a black cat walks in my path, I will immediately turn around and go home, even if I am on my way somewhere."
It seems as good an explanation of any for ten years of virtual - and literal - radio silence from the mega star.
