It is true that in most cases of stalking, the perpetrator is male. For cases involving erotomania - the delusion that the object of a person's fixation shares the same feelings of love - cases tend to primarily involve women, as Justin Timberlake discovered in 2009. 28-year-old Karen McNeil believed that she was destined to be with Timberlake and that they were to "rule" together. Evidently, Timberlake himself wasn't too pleased about these plans, and after she repeatedly trespassed and attempted to break into his L.A. home she ended up in court, where Timberlake was granted a permanent restraining order against his stalker. Justin Timberlake described McNeil as an "obsessed and mentally unstable stalker" whom he "does not personally know or have any relationship with" adding that he feared for the personal safety of himself and his family and friends. McNeil challenged the decision, stating that Timberlake let her onto his property - the restraining order seems to suggest the star's intentions were quite the opposite of what she believed.
