10 Completely Stupid Things That Everyone Does (Even If You Deny It)

3. Seeing A Suspect€™s Picture On The News...And Deciding Whether Or Not He€™s Guilty Based On It...

What a bunch of ignorant, judgemental buggers you all are. The BBC News pops up on the telly and the newsreaders are informing you that a man has been arrested on suspicion of (INSERT HEINOUS CRIMINAL ACT HERE) - they then show you a picture of the suspect. Instantly, your thoughts go a little something like this... €œYeah, he looks like a terrorist.€ €œI€™m surprised they didn€™t arrest him years ago, he€™s got €˜mugger€™ written all over him.€ Or better yet... €œOh yeah, definitely guilty. 100%. No question about it. He just looks... molestery." It doesn€™t matter that the poor sod€™s only a suspect in the investigation (and suspects often turn out to be innocent), nor does the idea of €˜innocent until proven guilty€™ mater either. It doesn€™t even matter if there€™s only circumstantial evidence; all that matters to us is that those eyes are too narrow, that haircut is too short and those nostrils are the nostrils of a mad man.

I am a professional author and lifelong comic books/pro wrestling fan. I also work as a journalist as well as writing comic books (I also draw), screenplays, stage plays, songs and prose fiction. I don't generally read or reply to comments here on What Culture (too many trolls!), but if you follow my Twitter (@heyquicksilver), I'll talk to you all day long! If you are interested in reading more of my stuff, you can find it on http://quicksilverstories.weebly.com/ (my personal site, which has other wrestling/comics/pop culture stuff on it). I also write for FLiCK http://www.flickonline.co.uk/flicktion, which is the best place to read my fiction work. Oh yeah - I'm about to become a Dad for the first time, so if my stuff seems more sentimental than usual - blame it on that! Finally, I sincerely appreciate every single read I get. So if you're reading this, thank you, you've made me feel like Shakespeare for a day! (see what I mean?) Latcho Drom, - CQ
