Now put your hands up! ...if you have also no idea what's in the centre of a black hole, because NOBODY DOES.

If that event horizon we talked about before is that 'black' part of a black hole, then the' hole' part is the singularity, which is the fancy name that scientists have given to the bit of space they simply have no way of knowing the truth about.

As is a pretty common theme with black holes, the whole sucking-in-all-the-bloody-light thing makes it very difficult to make any real observations and we just sort of have to make a decent guess as to what's going on on the inside.

One such prediction for what happens in the singularity is the idea that information breaks down on an atomic level, i.e. the rules of physics don't apply anymore. This could mean that, if you somehow were able to survive getting inside, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between a planet and a banana.

The only thing we can say for certain about the singularity is that once you're there, you ain't leaving.
