10 Crazy Things Booze Does To Your Body
8. Is Red Wine Is Good For You?
"Well, scientists say that red wine is good for you", your mother in law will happily declare as she throws back the last of the bottle.
As great as this would be, this isn't strictly true.
The claim comes from the fact the red wine contains a type of micronutrient call Polyphenols. There is evidence to suggest that these nutrients play an important role in preventing cardiovascular diseases and even some cancers.
There have even been clinical trials by some Italian scientists that have shown that the Polyphenol known as Resveratrol, which is found in red wine, can extend the lifespan of some fish by as much as 59%.
Red wine, in particular, contains 12 times more Resveratrol than white because it's made with the skin left on the grapes.
Sadly, however, this is still not enough. In order to get the dose of Resveratrol that was fed to the fish, you would have to smash back up to 84 bottles of wine a day. Now, it doesn't matter how much you like a drink, that's going to give you more than just a hangover.
