10 Creepiest Ever Stephen King Characters

3. Kurt Barlow - Salem€™s Lot

Kurt Barlow Salems Lot"Then will you throw away your cross and face me on even terms - black against white? Your faith against my own?" Following closely on the heels of his success with Carrie, King next brought us the story of a centuries old vampire living in modern day, small town America. That vampire was Kurt Barlow. It is intimated in the book that Barlow was actually born hundreds of years prior as an Austrian nobleman named Breichen. It is further hinted at that Breichen began a 12 year correspondence with a depression era mafia hit man named Hubie Marsten, a resident of Salem€™s Lot. Through that correspondence, Marsten ultimately paved the way for Barlow to travel to America. Along with his partner and human familiar, Straker, the duo pose as antiques dealers and set up shop in Salem€™s Lot. At first, only Straker travelled to town. After making a human sacrifice in advance of his master, Straker had Barlow shipped to America. Once in Salem€™s Lot, Barlow began a campaign of terror, turning the townspeople into vampires and all but rendering the town dead. If not for the intervention of author Ben Mears, Barlow€™s devilish infection may escalated beyond this tiny hamlet and spread to other parts of America.
