10 Creepiest Fan Fiction Stories

6. Ben Drowned

Fanfic Of: The Legend Of Zelda: Majora's Mask Plot: Username Jadusable (also the username of the author) stops at a garage sale where an elderly fellow sells him a copy of The Legend Of Zelda: Majora's Mask. On the cartridge is a game file labeled BEN, which seems to contain a number of very unpleasant glitches and unsettling components. When he transfers some of the data from the cartridge to his computer to share it online and prove his story, Jadusable soon learns there's a hostile, manipulative intelligence that's now on his computer that goes by the name of Cleverbot, and it might not just be AI. Commentary: Begun in September 2010, BEN DROWNED is essentially the first internet video game horror story to gain much attention. While the story has many of the positive attributes in common with NES Godzilla Creepypasta, the real standout is the character (if you can call it that) of Cleverbot. Cleverbot isn't related to the website. Hell, it isn't clear exactly what Cleverbot is. Nevertheless its conversations with the discombobulated protagonist are understated and sadistic enough that it seems a credible threat even without any clear ability to inflict physical harm. Additionally instead of just doing sprite edits like the ones done for NGC, Jadusable created videos of the creepy glitches described in the story to offer it more credibility. They're all completely SFW but the way bodies of the sprites are modified, the abrupt cuts, and the distorted music all make for a much more disquieting experience than anything to do with a story about a haunted video game cartridge should be able to provide.
