10 Creepiest Hauntings At Hampton Court Palace
4. Lady Gale's Return To The Cartoon Gallery
In 1986, a fire burned through the apartments above the cartoon gallery, causing the roof and floor to cave in. They were mostly occupied by elderly people and diplomats and whilst the majority of them were saved by firefighters, Lady Daphne Gale did not survive.
The fire absolutely destroyed that part of the palace as well as a lot of history and it took several years to renovate, including two years beforehand just for the wood to dry out after being doused. Towards the end of completion, an electrician was on site to replace a faulty fuse box. As he worked, he saw an elderly woman looking down at him from the top of a staircase. He thought nothing of it at the time but was later irked when he was shown a photo of Lady Gale at the re-opening ceremony.
He claimed it was the exact same woman looking at him from the staircase and he couldn’t be convinced otherwise.
