10 Dumbest Things In Harry Potter And The Cursed Child
6. The Trolley Witch Is More Than Just A Trolley Witch
The trolley witch was a sweet, calming presence in the original series. Her grand collection of sweets and snacks was always a key part of every student’s journey to Hogwarts.
Sadly, the writers of The Cursed Child decided to develop the trolley witch for the sake of a cheap gimmick.
When Albus and Scorpius attempt to flee the Hogwarts Express by jumping off the roof, they are momentarily delayed by the trolley witch. For reasons that aren’t entirely clear, her hands become claws and her pumpkin pasties are used as grenades against the two boys.
Whilst the practical effects during the live performance salvage this scene, it’s still a ridiculous story beat. It’s almost as if the trolley witch is some form of mutant or demon rather than a kind lady who wants to sell sweets.
What’s more, her transformation doesn’t add anything to the story, and as such, the writers should have simply removed this bizarre moment.
