10 Dumbest Things In Harry Potter And The Cursed Child
5. The Lack Of Continuity With Time Travel
The Prisoner of Azkaban was a terrific book, but the use of the Time-Turner opened up a lot of plot holes. Far from clearing up the matter, The Cursed Child only makes things more confusing.
For reasons that are never clearly explained, Theodore Nott was able to create two Time-Turners whilst working under Lucius Malfoy. Both of them could travel back years at a time and then transport the user to the present again. The one difference between them was that the prototype only allowed the user to spend five minutes in the past before they were returned to the present.
Crucially, neither were the same as the one from The Prisoner of Azkaban, which could only go back a few hours and had no compacity to return the user to the present.
To make things even more confusing, The Cursed Child also introduced several alternative timelines. Indeed, much of the story felt like a parody of Back to the Future.
In fairness, the Time-Turner is the centre point of The Cursed Child, so it isn’t something that could have easily been removed. Yet this still doesn't explain why the writers chose to go down this avenue in the first place.
