10 Greatest #SochiFails Of The 2014 Winter Olympics
5. Weather Bomb
The number one element needed for Winter Sports is winter weather, something Sochi has been struggling to produce for most of these games. Mild temperatures and intense rainfall turned carefully crafted slopes and tracks into sloppy messes of melting snow and puddles. One of the most impacted events was the new half pipe competition. both snowboarders and skiers struggled to maintain any speed when crossing the bottom of the ramp. Downhill skiing also saw time reductions and multiple wipe outs due to the slush. Crews had to spread salt over the snow to flash freeze it and bring it at least a little closer to what the athletes are used to. Now, the weather is clearly not in the control of anyone in Sochi, but these conditions were just miserable for Winter Games.
