10 Heart-Warming And Uplifting Things That Happened In 2020
8. Argentina Beat The All Blacks For The First Time
The closest the Pumas had ever gotten to beating the three time World Cup winners was back in 1985 at the Estadio Arquitecto Ricardo Etcheverry, ending in a 21-21 draw.
This was Argentina's first competitive match since their group stage exit in October at the 2019 Rugby World Cup, hosted in Japan. For New Zealand, they looked hungry, coming off a 24-22 loss to Australia the previous week.
Not only did Mario Ledesma's side pick up the victory against the All Blacks, they did so in a controlled and convincing fashion. The Puma's held a 19-3 lead up until the 53rd minute, when opposition captain Sam Cane crossed the white wash.
When it looked as though the All Blacks would mount an impressive but heartbreaking comeback, Argentine flanker and captain Pablo Matera won a crucial turnover with six minutes to go.
Just look at Matera's expression at 4:44 on this clip. You can see the passion burning in his soul underneath that steely glare.
