10 Hidden Details In Disneyland You Probably Didn’t Know
1. Cast Member’s Etiquette
Disneyland goes to great lengths to make sure guests have the most magical experience within the parks. Each and every cast member working in and around the parks are held to a highly stringent set of rules and code of ethics to help Disney be ‘the happiest place on earth’.
One of the most infamous rules enforced by Disney is that cast members cannot say ‘I don’t know’ to a guest, even if they genuinely don’t know an answer. Instead, the cast member must go to whatever lengths necessary to answer the guest’s question. This is in a bid to ensure no guest goes wondering around looking for answers.
Another entry into the Disney rulebook was excellently portrayed by Tom Hanks in ‘Saving Mr.Banks’, whereby cast members are not allowed to point solely with their index finger. All Disney employees must point using their index and middle finger, creating a two fingered gesture. Legend has it that the ‘Disney point’ pays homage to Walt when he used to stroll through the park smoking a cigarette. He would point with the ciggy holding hand, creating the infamous double finger gesture.
The nod to Walt, along with the notion that a single finger point could be perceived as rude, ensured the ‘Disney point’ was enforced by every single worker under the Disney banner. This is even part of a cast member’s induction program when the new employee is first taken into the Disney family.
