4. You Matter
No more half-assing a stack of paperwork or reports. No more taking a day off to drink beer and go fly-fishing. No more showing up the day after St. Patrick's Day with a barf bag. There won't always be a higher-up for you to hide behind: Day-to-day decisions matter, and so does your presence. This is true to varying degrees for all employees, but a manager is a vital point of contact for his or her employees and superiors with regards to any number of matters, whether they be time-sensitive projects, administrative issues, or anything in between. One day of unexplained absence or poorly-done work could result in serious pecuniary consequences for the company.
