10 Incredibly Clever Casino Scams That Actually Worked

6. The Reverse Scam

The reverse scam is a basic confidence scam, discussed in detail by casino cheat Richard Marcus, in which the victim believes themselves to part of a scheme to rinse the casino out of hundreds of thousands of dollars. Taking place on the big baccarat tables, the victim is made to believe that they will gain credit from the casino by signing gambling markers. The victim believes that they know the real scammer's identity, after being shown a false ID, and the scammer tells the victim that he needs money to finance the scam. During a game of Baccarat, the players can either wager on the banker or player. The scammer tells the victim that they should bet similarly large amounts, in order to offset the costs. Once the scammer holds the majority of the betted chips, two accomplices dressed in suits approach from behind, asking the scammer to come with them. The victim assumes that the two men are casino detectives, while the casino will assume they're just the friends of the scammer. Later, the two accomplices go to the hotel room of the victim, pretending to be the FBI and asking questions about the scammer, before leaving. The scammer later phones the victim, claims to be on the run after having the money confiscated, and the victim is likely unaware that he was involved in a reverse scam in the first place.
