When a man with significant military experience disappears, people are immediately suspicious of foul play, as surely it must take something special to nab a man with survival training and face no consequences. But Jim Thompson, former US officer, was the victim of such a fate, as he went for a stroll from a Malaysian cottage in the Cameron Highlands, and quite simply never returned. Thompson was regarded as the saviour of the Thai silk industry, having created something of a boom in the market, and at the time of his disappearance in 1967 would have been one of the biggest names in the garment industry. What's strange about his disappearance is that Thompson left behind items such as cigarettes and heavy walking gear, suggesting that the man had only intended on a short stroll, meaning that he most likely disappeared somewhere extremely close to the house he was staying in. A flurry of reported sightings and an enormous search later, and still no hard proof of his whereabouts were found.
