10 Lesser-Known Harry Potter Characters With Awesome Backstories

8. The Weasley's Had A Cousin In Slytherin

One character who ended up being cut from Goblet of Fire was a distant Weasley by the name of Mafalda. Mafalda was the daughter of Molly Weasley's second, estranged cousin who was also likely to be a Squib. Mafalda would have started her first year during the main trio's fourth, and she would have been sorted into Slytherin. She was supposed to serve the role as a nosy girl who eavesdropped on the children of Death Eaters in Slytherin, and who then went on to tell Harry and the gang to impress them. However, Rowling found that Mafalda's character wasn't getting the job done, so she instead developed Rita Skeeter further and cut Mafalda from the final story.

7. The Inventor Of The Severing Charm Was A Popular Dressmaker

In the 15th century, Delfina Crimp was one of London's most prominent and popular dressmakers. She posed as a muggle in London because witches and wizards were often prosecuted during this time period. She invented the Severing Charm to make cutting cloth much more efficient. One of her rival tailors, Sickerton, however, was jealous of Delfina and suspected her to be a witch. One night he hid in her shop to catch her using magic, and saw her using her wand to cut fabric. The next day he brought in the authorities and bound her for fear of the curses that she could cast. They searched the shop for hours, but they couldn't find her wand. She asked the men to unbind her, so she could scratch a large wart on her face. They allowed this but soon realized that her wart was actually her wand in disguise. She grabbed a bag of money and Disapparated and was never seen in London again. However, after Delfina's disappearance, everything Snickerton tried to make ended up sliced apart, mysteriously. He was convinced he was haunted by a giant pair of invisible scissors for the rest of his life.
