10 Magic Tricks That Went Disastrously Wrong Live

8. The Great Moodini Gets Taken For A Ride

The self-titled "The Great Moodini" did not live up to the talent of the man who inspired his stage name after a trick involving a race car, some handcuffs and a daring escape very nearly killed him.

With some cuffs attached to his wrists and the cuffs chained to the back of a race car, the idea was that Michael Anthony Mooney would have three seconds to bust himself out of his restraints before the hyper-fast vehicle sped off down the race track.

But as you undoubtedly guessed, that didn't happen.

Mooney managed to remove one of the cuffs but failed to free himself from the second, and the car swiftly accelerated, tossing the man into the air and slamming him back down onto the hard road below, all in the blink of an eye.

Mooney broke several bones and was hospitalised, but eventually recovered from his injuries with no major lasting damage.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
