10 Mind-Blowing Celebrity Scandals You Won't Believe Everyone Forgot

2. Martha Stewart - Insider Trading Landed America's Sweetheart A Prison Stay

Martha Stewart is the crafts and cookery queen of America. No one can touch her. Unless Oprah decides to start baking cakes - then Martha Stewart we'll really be taken down a peg. But as history shows, that's much harder than you'd initially think. In 2004, Stewart was imprisoned for five months relating to insider trading. She had been tipped off by her stockbroker that the CEO of biopharmaceutical company ImClone (a company Stewart had invested in) was about to sell off his shares. The day after she sold, the stock value dropped 16%, immediately making her trade look suspicious. It seemed like the end of her career. How could someone with such a wholesome image recover from a five month prison stay? Well, pretty easily. Her company began turning a profit again within two years. On a TV spot on The Early Show, in the midst of the scandal Stewart was heavily interrogated by anchor Jane Clayson. Her response was to continue preparing her food and say: "I just want to focus on my salad." And America agreed. The incident has been forgiven and - save a few throwaway quips on late night talk shows - entirely forgotten. SOURCE: money.cnn
