10 Mind-Blowing Celebrity Scandals You Won't Believe Everyone Forgot
3. Ted Kennedy - Left Woman To Suffocate
No one has ever so expertly exploited celebrity appeal in politics like the Kennedys. Their history is bulging with controversy - the Chappaquiddick incident standing tall amongst the most scandalous. That being the time Ted Kennedy caused the death of a 28 year old woman. It had been around a year since his brother Bobby's assassination. In remembrance, Ted had decided to throw a party for those who worked on the presidential campaign. In attendance was Mary Jo Kopechne, who ended up leaving with Ted. On the way home, Senator Kennedy went completely the wrong way and drove his car off a bridge into ten feet of water. Ted attested that he was sober at the time. We're just saying. Maybe if he'd called the police directly following the incident we'd know for sure. But he didn't. According to Ted he attempted to reach Mary Jo multiple times but couldn't. He then went back to the party to get assistance... and didn't phone for help. With two party goers, he then returned to the scene. Neither could reach the car but Kennedy promised them he'd phone for help. He didn't. It was nearly ten hours after the fact that the police were called. By this time the car and Mary Jo had been found. She had survived the crash but had died when oxygen trapped in the car ran out. Although the incident did destroy any hopes of a future presidential run, Ted Kennedy served in the Senate up until his death in 2009. An almost 47 year stay. SOURCE: daily mail
