10 Mobile Phone Features People Never Really Needed
3. Charging
It was a real game changer and a glimpse of the future when Nokia launched their first line of Lumias with built-in wireless charging in 2012. Fast-forward to 2015 and we are still using cables. Surprisingly few other manufacturers have jumped on the bandwagon. The main reason behind the poor adoption of Qi technology is that charging big batteries wirelessly is snail slow. We can't expect it to change soon too. LG Nexus 4s 2100mAh battery takes roughly 3-4 hours to full charge. Powering up your Motorola Moto Plays 3630 mAh monster of a battery would certainly take ages. If it did offer wireless charging, of course. Wireless charging failed to catch on but producers do not seem to care. Amazing as the feature is, most top of the range smartphones still do not support Qi wireless charging standard out of the box. This, again, proves that users are not being listened to. Instead, fast chargers and USB-C stole the spotlight in 2015, but they're no revolution either. Bottom line: another amazing technology straight from science fiction movies went down like a lead balloon, dragged by these power-hungry 6" screens.
