6. Japanese Woman Lives In Man's House Undetected

Before reading this one, do yourself a favour. Have a little prowl around the house, checking under beds, inside cupboards, in the attic and even demolishing your walls to see if anyone is living inside them. Think that's a bit dramatic? Try telling the poor sod who had 58-year old Tatsuko Horikawa as a secret house mate for an entire year.

The Japanese woman had previously been homeless, so she gladly pounced upon an opportunity for shelter when the owner unknowingly left his door unlocked. Finding solace in a small cupboard above some storage, Horikawa stayed for around 12 months, even using the toilet and shower when she was home alone. She was only caught because the guy noticed that food was missing from his refrigerator.

When police searched the house, they were stunned to find a well-presented woman curled up inside the closet like it was the most normal thing in the world. Horikawa claimed she didn't take any money or valuables, only enough food to keep her going.
