10 Most Expensive Paintings Ever Sold

8. Three Studies Of Lucian Freud (Francis Bacon) - £95.6m ($143.1m)

Irish-born British painter Francis Bacon is renowned for his emotive paintings - and his 1969 oil-on-canvas triple-work Three Studies of Lucian Freud is no different. Freud is shown sitting on a cane-bottomed wooden chair within a cage from three separate angles in the trio of paintings, which are sometimes regarded as Bacon's best work. Sold for a value equivalent to $143.1million (£95.6million) in November 2013 at Christie's auction house in New York, they were purchased by Elaine Wynn - the ex-wife of former Las Vegas business magnate Steve Wynn.
