10 Most Scarily Advanced Robots In The World
10. iCub
Standing at one metre high, with its chubby little cheeks and big eyes, the iCub has the distinct look of a human toddler.
That's not where the comparison ends either, as it also learns like a toddler too.
"Cub" stands for Cognitive Universal Body, and the iCub is designed in such a way that allows cognitive learning through interaction, perception and repetition. Basically, show and tell it stuff, and it will pick it up, just like a two-year-old.
The hardware and software are both open-source and there are currently about 30 iCubs in the world.
The technology is always changing and advancing, but so far, iCub's capabilities include facial, speech and object recognition, manual dexterity, balance, crawling, archery and even solving complex 3D puzzles.
For those of you who are a bit jumpy about the robot uprising, the above video of iCub responding to vocal commands could make for some slightly unsettling watching, but it's pretty impressive.
