Relief tents were crammed full with victims from flooding at Nchalo, Chikwawa, Malawi. Mid-January this year more than 170 people were killed and 200,000 lost their homes. Crops were destroyed, livestock washed away and large areas went underwater after two weeks of torrential rain and flooding swept through the Southern African country. Peter Mutharika, Malawis president, said the cost of the damage was 23.9bn kwacha (£34m) and more than half of the country was declared a disaster zone. Unicef have been among other charities who have helped, with pop-up areas over crowded and supplies running thin; even two months on after this disaster the affects are still devastating.
