10 Most Underrated Board Games You Should Play

6. Formula D

Formula D is not as you might assume a chemistry themed board game, but a car racing game, and a cracking one at that.

Formula D can best be described as a simulation of risk management: by gunning it and going fast you can indeed pull out to a lead, but risk getting into a horrific crash. By going slow and steady you keep control of the vehicle, but have fewer chances to get in front of your opponents.

Each of the car's gears are represented by a specific dice, with a separate dice used to determine course events like collisions, stalling, pole position and sometime weather effects.

The game has several different rule sets and variations so if the original vanilla rules start to get a bit boring you can add slipstreams, car customisation or even additional expansion maps, to keep things interesting.

There's also a street racing expansion, which adds the element of disgruntled citizens and broken pavements, but the original gives you the thrill of racing the Monaco Grand Prix, or at least as close as most of us will come to racing it.
