8. Why Did Hedwig Have To Die?

While good people do have to die in the battles between good and evil (because that's fair, right?) why, why, WHY did JK Rowling have to kill off Hedwig? There was no character or animal in any of the Harry Potter books as good and true and loyal as that owl. Dobby's death was upsetting, but created to stage a tragedy in order to fuel Harry's rage against Voldemort. But Hedwig? That death was just excessive. No owl needed to die, especially that so white and fluffy.
