10 Problems Only People From London Ontario Will Understand

2. Our Famous Actors Leave And Don't Come Back

There are two very famous young movie actors from London, Ontario even though most people that follow them probably have no idea about it. They are Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling. You might remember them from their 2004 breakout film The Notebook that made over $115 million worldwide for what was considered a low budget film. It launched both of them into superstardom in their mid-20s. Both have went on to have great careers since then too. Gosling was born in London, Ontario on November 12, 1980. His family moved away when he was young in places like Cornwall and Burlington, Ontario. He's never really talked about being from London or done anything for the community since he became really famous. That doesn't mean he HAS to do something. It would just be nice if one of the biggest movie stars in the world helped put London on the map a bit more. McAdams was also born in London on November 17, 1978. She grew up in the area in both London and nearby St. Thomas while also attending university briefly here in London before moving on to acting school in Toronto. She knew that if you wanted to really make it you had to get to Toronto and give her credit for making it work. It's cool to be able to say we live in a city where two really famous actors were from because there really haven't been a lot of big name celebrities from here. McAdams does do a lot of charity work in the province of Ontario and has a home near Toronto, so at least she gives back a bit. Most people that live here don't really think of either as locals because they got out when they could and that's the mentality of some people that live here. It's a shame, really.
