10 Problems Only People From Pittsburgh Would Understand

5. There's No Such Thing As "On The Side"

The "Pittsburgh-style" sandwich was made famous by legendary Primanti Brothers sandwich shop. A Pittsburgh sandwich comes standard with cole slaw and fries in the sandwich. Side dishes be damned, they get crammed right between grilled meat and the top slice of bread (Primanti's also throws in a slice of tomato). It can be easy for 'Burgh-bred diners to erroneously make assumptions when dining abroad. Asking for, and describing, a Pittsburgh-style sandwich elsewhere is typically met with odd glares and requests for clarification from the wait staff. The best bet for the traveling Pittsburgher is to just ask for the necessary ingredients on the side and DIY a faux Primanti. Once the slaw and fried potatoes are in their proper place, then it's time to get busy.
