10 Problems Only People From Pittsburgh Would Understand

6. Bridge Traffic... No Matter Where You Are Going

Fact: Pittsburgh hold the United States record for most bridges in a city. 446 bridges span not only the Ohio, Allegheny and Monongahela rivers that surround Pittsburgh, but also the legion of streams, creeks and tributaries that skewer its neighborhoods. The bottom line is that if you are driving anywhere... anywhere further than a block away, you are likely facing bridge traffic. These are no ordinary bridges, mind you. Pittsburgh bridges provide breakneck lane changes, inconvenient exit locations and confusing signage. The major bridges have, of course, a black and gold color scheme and bear interesting names. Some include the Andy Warhol, the Roberto Clemente and the Hot Metal. The real joy is the Fort Pitt bridge (pictured above), which is connected to the 1.1 km Fort Pitt Tunnel. Tunnel traffic followed immediately by bridge traffic is like a logistical chocolate and peanut butter. Regardless of name or color, the real common denominator of Pittsburgh bridges is that you are going to be stuck on one of them.
