6. No One Understood Why You Went Travelling Alone
How many times did you have to reassure your friends and family that travelling around Asia for eight weeks by yourself was going to be no hassle? Hell, you've been doing stuff by yourself for years; the thought of having someone traipsing around after you while you were doing the biggest thing of your life actually makes your skin crawl a little. You needed to do this big thing by yourself; to prove to everyone and maybe yourself a little bit, that you could go to the other side of the world and return in one piece, brimming with new experiences and having seen some amazing things. You wanted to see Beijing alone, to wander the Forbidden City without having to talk to anyone and just absorb the culture. You wanted to swim in the sea in Thailand, explore hidden markets and buy silly trinkets without the opinions of others getting in your way. Was that selfish? You didn't think so. Explaining that you were going to have a better time alone was hard though; people just don't get you sometimes.
