Bear Lake, on the Utah-Idaho border, is home to a large water-dwelling cryptid according to local reports. Originally reported by Joseph C Rich, a Mormon colonizer in the area, it is described as having a large undulating body that is light cream colour, with legs that are forty-five centimetres long and a head similar to a cow, otter or crocodile. They all look alike, right? Though Mr Rich eventually recanted his statement, the belief in the creature survives because of frequent observations of an unknown animal. The last sighting was in June 2002 when a respected business owner along the lake spotted something oscillating through the lake. Now a bit of a tourist attraction, people flock to Bear Lake to try to spot the creature, but locals take it all in stride. During the Raspberry Days parade, the children are labelled The Real Bear Lake Monsters and outdoor sports events use the beast as a logo. So where is the monster? Some people think hes just hibernating, waiting for the next tasty morsel to swim on by and wake him.
