10 Really Lousy Writers Who Inexplicably Sell Loads Of Books

6. Charlaine Harris

Sookie Stackhouse Series

Charlaine Harris is the author of the Sookie Stackhouse novels, which of course was the basis for the HBO series True Blood. Like Anne Rice, she writes about Vampires in the south, but in the Stackhouse novels they are more in the swamps than the high society of New Orleans. In the series, vampires are officially "out" meaning that humans know about them. Harris novels are not offensively bad; they are just bland. She offers nothing new at all to the vampire genre but yet sells millions of copies of her books. Harris also has a terrible habit of including information that isn't necessary to either the plot or the character. For example, Harris often explains what her main character, Sookie, had for lunch or what clothes she put on. A lot of times she is eating things like toast and putting on a white t-shirt. Who cares? I want to read about vampires, not some twitter updates from some bar waitress. For being so bland and lacking plotting skills, Harris makes the list.
