10 Secret Walt Disney World Areas You Need To Know
1. Backstage Of The Rope Drop
One of Disney World’s most honoured routines is Magic Kingdom’s daily opening ceremony. This event is a grand opening to the park each and every day where all of the much-loved characters are paraded in the iconic steam carts before the ‘family of the day’ gets to officially open the park with the ‘rope drop’.
The Family of the day is hand picked from within the early-rising crowd and asked to join Micky and the gang on the train and help open the park. This experience has gone down in Disney folklore, and the chosen family gets to see behind-closed-door areas of the park, as well as standing on the Magic Kingdom platform. All of these areas are off-limits to park visitors unless you have the luck of being chosen as the said family.
There is no set rules as to who is chosen from the crowd, but there are some pointers to help you get noticed. Firstly guests must get to the park as early as possible to give the best chance of getting spotted. Being chatty and friendly to cast members is a must as you never know who will be choosing the family to join the coveted group. But above all else, showing your genuine enthusiasm for Disney is the secret to being chosen out of the crowd - and don’t forget a little sprinkle of fairy dust.
