Everyone has heard of the Lost City of Atlantis, but Disney has its very own hidden water world - well, technically abandoned. River Country was Disney’s very first water park, harbouring a rustic wilderness theme which used circulated fresh water from the nearby lake. The park operated from the mid 70’s up until 2001 when it shut down under mysterious circumstances.

The park is still standing near the Bay Lake area in Florida, which has never ben cleared for demolition. Plastic water slides still stand in the shadows and pools are still full of stagnant water to this day.

Trees, vines and moss now cover the once active park as it has slowly been reclaimed by nature, creating an eerily creepy feel to it that wouldn’t look out of place inside of ‘The Last Of Us’ game franchise.

The pictures are a sight to behold, with the stills showing the echoes of children's laughter fade into the distance - It is a sad yet beautiful horizon.

This is the side of Disney that nobody sees, fairytales should NOT look like this.
