Volcano Bay's headline attraction is the Krakatau Aqua Coaster. A fun family ride that sends you right through the heart of the Volcano. It turns out the secret to making this thrilling raft ride work is magnets.
Using the exact same technology that's used on other roller coasters, including Universal's own Revenge of the Mummy, Krakatau's rafts uses magnets to propel themselves around the shoots.
Magnets have been used in roller coasters for years enabling roller coaster cars to be propelled quickly up lift hills and even replace traditional brakes. This is done by switching the currents that run through magnets attached to the coaster tracks. This causes them to either attract or repel magnets that are attached to the cars.
