He actually wants to talk to you and will take you to places where you can hear each other to have a decent conversation in order to get to know you better. You can tell a lot about a person by their choices on a first date and obviously, how they act on it. You want to feel valued and respected so hopefully he won't put his phone on the table and check it every two minutes the first time that you're out to dinner. He also won't turn his back to you when he looks at his phone because he doesn't have anything to hide. If the person that you're on a date with spends more time on their phone than they do with you then it's not looking good.
