10 Stephen King Stories Begging For Sequels
8. The Mist
The Mist is another case of the film being vastly different from the novel, so if you've only seen the Frank Darabont directed feature, you might not realize that the original Novella ended very, very differently.
While the film ended in a tragic group suicide pact that turned out to be completely unnecessary as moments later, the military saved the day (a.k.a. a giant slap in the face to Hollywood happy endings), the book left things much more open. In it, the survivors pile into a vehicle and simply drive off into the mist.
Readers never see what happened to them. Did they, in fact, run out of gas, and end their own suffering? Did they manage to refuel? Did they find more survivors?
These are the things that the film answers that the original work does not. And while King has been supportive of the film, it would still be interesting to see where he would have taken things.
