10 Struggles Of A Brit Living In America

8. Lack Of Lamb

Outside of Brokeback Mountain it is very rare to see sheep in America. It is even more rare to see lamb on sale in a supermarket. A quick internet search will confirm that America does in fact have a healthy ovine population, but it's where the sheep go on sale once they're dead that remains somewhat of a mystery. In fact Americans eat less than one pound of lamb per person per year. Beef on the other hand, is a different story; they consume around 55-60 pounds per person per year. Beef is the primary meat in the western United States, and they just seem to love it more than in Blighty. Frankly, from burgers, steaks, sausages and more burgers, it's all about the beef. In fact since the early years of the American colonization to the present, beef has been one of the top five food items consumed by Americans. Lamb is barely on their radar, and that's a shame. It is a sad fact that Brits in America generally have had to let go of their love of lamb when they move and have to realize it is something that will likely be eaten as a rare treat. This is such a shame, as a lot of Brits will agree lamb is possibly the greatest meat of all time; Do Americans know what they are missing? Do they even know what mint sauce is?
