4. Americans Are Obsessed With TV And Advertising
http://youtu.be/s-ySOBAD5m4 This is one of the few things that really gets me riled up about America. I love TV, I'm a massive fan of the medium. Films, comedy, drama, documentary, reality, etc, I could literally watch them all day. Nowadays we have access to hundreds of programmes at any given time, and TV recorders which allow us to rewind and fastforward the shows as we see fit. It is a glorious age to be a telly addict. But, in America, they have taken advertising too far. Even living in Britain one can see that. I know every country has adverts, but when I'm watching an American TV show it cuts away from it after every five minutes or so. That is where your TV sets switch over to some silly advert by 'insert contemporary fastfood restaurant here' (don't want to get sued) or the latest film, or the new must-have toy for kids. Isn't it enough that you have New York, with streams of billboards and screens devoted solely to the advertising of food, drinks, games, books, films, appliances, homes, perfumes, shampoos, dreams, jobs, people.......... I'm not going to say that all Americans are obsessed with advertising. As far as I know, there could be thousands upon millions of people shouting at their TV sets constantly, telling it to get rid of the adverts and show the rest of the show. I know I would, but even if this advertising was not hugely popular, it must have an influence on the population. There are adverts on skyscrapers, on TV, at the cinema, on websites, even on people's foreheads. I would like to make a funny finish to this slide, but I've had my eye on this new kettle I saw during Family Guy, so I'm gonna head out for an hour. Level of Brit Stupidity: 3
