3. Americans Are Obsessed With Celebrities
http://youtu.be/D2YLLMI5L5E I'm back. The shops were closed, so I'll have to go back tomorrow. OK, what's the next slide... Oh right, America is obsessed with celebrities. This is quite easy to state because America is where all celebrities tend to go to in order to make it big. Hollywood is the place where dreams are fulfilled or die, and all global newspapers and magazines have a great proportion devoted to celebrity culture and news. This isn't just an American phenomenon; it's a global epidemic. In the past, we had 'celebrities' that were great men and women of the age that did very important work for the benefit of all mankind. Today, we have anybody who can get onto TV and operate a webcam. When once Americans could boast Thomas Edison, Benjamin Franklin, Bob Hope and Jimi Hendrix, today we have Big Brother, Jersey Shore and Paris Hilton. At a point where we have more celebrity culture than ever before, the standard required to become famous is at fact at its lowest ever. There are plenty of celebrities today that have worked incredibly hard in perfecting their talents and skills, and deserve to be heard and seen across the world. Snooki doesn't deserve to be anywhere other than the back of a police car. However, it is ridiculous that the British feel that the Americans are celebrity obsessives, when the whole of the world seems to behave in the same way. The Americans produces so many of the celebrities, for better or worse, which is why we seem to attach so much of the 'blame' onto them. But now, anybody can produce their own cr***y celebrities, and the disease spreads further, to a degree that it may never be stopped. Can anyone tell me what The Situation even is?
