10 Stupid Things Brits Think About Americans

2. Americans Are All Fat

http://youtu.be/2VqMnyM2lus We all knew that this slide was coming up, unless you got so tired flicking through this slide that you turned away to fetch yourself a pizza. Shall we begin with some basic facts about Americans? In 2010, the CDC reported that 35.7% of American adults could be regarded as obese, and 17% of American children also. Researchers for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and RTI International estimate that in 2003, obesity-attributable medical expenditures reached $75 billion. I could just leave it there, make a few gags about Rosie O'Donnell and move on. To be honest, regarding O'Donnell, she must be eating a lot considering the amount of s**t that comes out of her mouth. Yes, it is true that the Americans are not the fattest race of humans of all time, and yes in Britain we struggle with our own degrees of diversity. No Americans the same weight as a blue whale either, but that doesn't mean that a massive portion of the population is chubby. Think of the everyday characters on American TV - Mike & Molly, Homer Simpson, The Klumps. Just because American celebrities are perma-tanned and have enjoyed the luxury of a great deal of plastic surgery doesn't mean that the entire population look like that (thank God). Big can be beautiful, but fat can be f**k ugly, and the fact of the matter is in the USA you are going to encounter both at an astonishing rate. It would be like walking into a hall of mirrors. While I'll admit to the fact that the British overestimate the extent of obesity in the States, the Americans do themselves no favours in dispelling this stereotype. Level of Brit Stupidity: 1
